Educational Tours maintains exceptional business standards and ethics and is affiliated with reputable associations in the travel industry. Association memberships include:

    Minimum requirements for joining the N.T.A. include:
  • complies with all applicable governmental requirements;
  • has at least three years in the business of conducting or arranging packaged travel, on a for-profit basis, and has in its employ a person who has been actively engaged in the business of developing, packaging, promoting, selling and operating packaged travel for at least three years immediately prior to the date of application;
  • has had 24 tour departures or 50 touring days during the immediately preceding 12-month period;
  • maintains both general liability and professional liability, errors and omissions insurance coverages in the amount of at least $ 1 million annually;
  • is not in violation of the NTA Code of Ethics

    Tour Operator Membership Criteria:
  • Agree to comply with the SYTA Code of Ethics.
  • Have a Consumer Protection plan in the name of their organization that equals or exceeds SYTA's standards
  • Operate a travel company that provides travel for a minimum of 3,000 students/youths per year or earns annual gross revenue of at least $1 million US from student/youth tours. Students/youths are defined as being less than 26 years of age.
  • Have provided student/youth travel services for at least three years under the same ownership. When ownership of a member organization changes, the new owner(s) must apply for a transfer of membership. Ownership is defined as changing when 50 percent or more of the ownership changes.
  • Submit five letters of reference. Four references are to be from organizations with which the operator has done business for at least three years. One reference is to be from a tour operator or travel agency. Letters of reference must be signed, on organizational letterhead, current and specifically recommend membership in SYTA.
  • Submit a copy of your company's certificate of incorporation or other document establishing your legal name.
  • Maintain Errors and Omissions (Professional Liability) insurance of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence. Applicant must provide evidence of current coverage.
  • Maintain General Liability insurance of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence. Applicant must provide evidence of current coverage.
  • Have company principals who have not been convicted (or otherwise found guilty or pleaded no contest) of any offense involving fraud, deception, breach of trust, child abuse or any other felony.
  • Have agency principals who have not declared bankruptcy in the past five years.
  • Be a single-business entity. Consortia, associations or franchisers are not eligible for membership, however their individual entities may qualify.
  • Comply with all laws, regulations and licensing requirements applicable to the operation of the applicant's business.
  • Maintain good financial standing with SYTA (i.e., keep dues & initiation fees current).
  • Have an established office in North America (normal business hours; open to the public).
